30 pictures that will inspire a visit to Kerala, South India

When I tell people that I’ve been to India I often get asked if it’s as crowded and undeveloped as they’ve imagined. It seems to be that people see pictures from the same areas of India and assume the whole country is like that. Last year I was lucky to spend 2 weeks traveling around the state of Kerala and I absolutely loved it. I want to inspire more people to visit this beautiful place, known as Gods Own Country, so here are 30 pictures from my trip that I think will do just that.

You are so right. India has to offer such a diversity, not only the crowded cities we often see. The nature is amazing in India too.

  2. You had me at the elephants! I am automatically drawn to elephants, as they are the most beautiful animals, in my opinion. I love how this location has mountains, but still has a beach like area. I am definitely long overdue for a trip! <3

  3. Kovalam looks like such a wonderful place! I couldn’t help but smile at the little monkey .. and know I’d be eating lots and lots of curry. Also .. all of the amazing sunsets. Way to go Mother Nature!

I’ve heard so much about Kerala, and no-one has had a bad word to say about it – the incredible sunsets and scenery of the backwaters play in my mind when I picture what it would be like 🙂 Thanks for the photo tour!

  5. Kerala is so beautiful! I was there 6 years ago. Your post reminded me of all the nice memories I had of the place.

  6. I haven’t been to India, but Kerala has always been high on my list. I went to a Kerala-focused Indian restaurant in London called Trishna a few years back, and the food blew me away. Since then, it has made me want to try as many seafood curries and prawn dishes as possible from this region, so sampling it in person would be amazing!

  7. India and places like Kerala are one of my must see vacation spots.Your stunning photos and commentary is making me want to go now.

  8. Wow Kerala is absolutely stunning! Tea plantations carved into green hills, gorgeous water views and amazing food, what more could you want?

  9. Lovely photo gallery of Kerala. I visited years ago on a work trip, but almost forgot how beautiful it is over there.

  10. I don’t know why, but I have never associated beaches with India. The photo of the sunset at the beach in Kovalam is so pretty. I think having a cup of coffee at the Treehouse Coffee shop at Greenwoods Resort in Thekkady would be my type of stop during a visit there.

  19. Kerala is one of the best examples of Indian’s diversity. Culture, nature, cuisine, heritage, it has everything in ample doses. Did you also visit the Athirapally falls? They are one of the most beautiful waterfalls in India, about 2 hours drive from Cochin.

  20. Awesome pictures but you could not inspire because I already live there. Haha! Great post and thank you for promoting our great state
