Our romantic break at The Clayton Hotel in Limerick, Ireland

After a hectic week in Ireland visiting family and getting little sleep during TBEX (a travel bloggers conference) we were ready for some well deserved relaxation and we certainly got it at The Clayton Hotel Limerick.

Since we launched the site back in January we have dedicated all of our spare time to this blog. All of our spare time! We love our blog and you guys but it can get exhausting and sometimes we need time to just be a couple. Our stay at The Clayton Hotel Limerick proved to be the perfect place for spending a romantic weekend in Limerick. Curious why? Read on to find out…

Location

When you’re after a romantic break away there’s no better setting than a hotel next to a river. Yes, The Clayton Hotel is situated along the banks of the river Shannon providing stunning views from their 158 luxurious rooms.

The Room

All 158 of the luxurious rooms have been designed for relaxation. They are the perfect place for a romantic break away. Plus all the rooms come with a strong wifi connection, air-con, a 32” television, tea making facilities, crisp cotton duvets, iron and ironing boarding, a high performance hair dryer, safety deposit box and 24 hour room service.

Of course, if you want to make your romantic trip away more luxurious, you can upgrade to one of the executive rooms. This is the room we had and as well as all the amenities mentioned above, when you book an executive room you will also be provided with a morning newspaper, mineral water for your room, an espresso coffee machine, chocolates and luxury toiletries.

For me though, the best part of the room was the bath gown (robe) that we got. I always get a little excited when I see my hotel room has a robe but this one at The Clayton Hotel Limerick was the most comfiest robe I’ve ever worn! It was exactly the little perk I needed to really relax on our romantic break. And for the ultimate romantic trip you can always choose to get the penthouse room which comes with everything mentioned plus your own private balcony!

Leisure Facilities

As well has offering stunning rooms to relax in, The Clayton Hotel Limerick also has plenty of facilities to offer their guests. What I love about them is there is no hidden fee to pay to use the facilities once you get there. Everything is open to their guests. That means no extra stress to ruin your relaxing trip away.

We couldn’t resist taking a dip in the indoor pool every morning. The pool is twelve metres long with four foot depth. The perfect size for someone like me who just wants to swim a few laps in the morning to wake up. My favourite part about the pool is with the huge glass windows surrounding it, you can enjoy views of the river Shannon while you swim. An outdoor pool really wouldn’t be an option with all the rain Ireland gets but The Clayton Hotel Limerick has found a great way to provide a pool that can be used in all weather and still offer views of the city. Perfect!

What makes the Clayton Hotel Limerick the perfect getaway place for couples wanting a romantic break away is that they offer much more than just a pool. We were treated to a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. We were in heaven!

As Danik is a marathon runner he doesn’t like to be too far away from a gym when we travel so he was delighted our hotel also offered a state of the art gym that offered everything he needed. Usually I would join him for a morning gym session but I must admit I was too in love with the jacuzzi to join him this trip! Is that bad?

Bar and Restaurant

After a week and a half of busy schedules we just wanted to be somewhere we could relax and take it easy. That’s why we loved the fact The Clayton Hotel Limerick has it’s own bar we could enjoy. With friendly staff, a great selection of drinks and a view of the river Shannon, it’s no wonder this hotel bar is also popular with the locals too.

It wasn’t just the bar we enjoyed during our stay, we also sampled some delicious food from the restaurant. We loved the intimate ambience here and the range of food available. On the first night we enjoyed an romantic three-course meal in the restaurant and on the second night we decided to enjoy some time alone and took advantage of the room service.

The Staff

No matter how impressive a hotel and its facilities are, the staff can be a make it or break it for guests enjoying their stay. For me the staff here were completely fantastic. From the moment we arrived we had people wanting to help us with anything. The hotel is well staffed so there’s always someone around if you require assistance and always with a smile on their face.

They have excellent knowledge of the city and we were very grateful for that one guy suggested a visited to The Copper Room where we got to enjoy beautiful wine while eating some delicious cheese.

  1. We are planning a trip to Ireland next summer, our first! I hate packing and unpacking. Would Limerick and the Clayton Hotel be a good base to explore Galway, Dingle and Killarney? My husband is a marathon runner, too. He plans scenic running routes on each stop of our travels.

  2. Always great to get a hotel recommendation like this, and love the river views in particular. The room looks comfortable and a nice place to relax (always good to know the wifi is decent for us social media addicts) and the facilities look good too.

  3. Wow the food looks really fabulous. I love it when the food looks really pretty like that. Also liking the idea of a pool with a view

  4. Looks like a great place to stay in Limerick and I love that it is next to the river and has views too. I’m glad you had a chance to decompress and it sounds like the hotel was the perfect place to do that. I will keep it in mind when I’m back in Ireland as I like to fly into Shannon Airport.

  5. Wow it looks like a very comfortable place, I especially love the pool area!

  6. Our go-to for accommodations in any new country is AirBnB… but I still love seeing resources like this because you’re spot on: sometimes you just need a relaxing retreat where you’re not a blogger but just a couple. Bravo to you for actually taking some time to yourselves! And no, it’s not bad that you skipped the gym this go-round… I’d’ve done the same 🙂

  7. Looks like the perfect location right along the river! The rooms are lovely too! Always gotta love a hotel that has robes in the room. And would it be a romantic trip without a trip to the jacuzzi?! Looks like y’all had a wonderful time!

  8. What a fantastic looking hotel! And yes, a river definitely adds to the romance! The room looks super spacious and comfortable and the amenities look wonderful as well. Agreed that staff can make or break even the most luxurious of hotels, so I am glad this one has service to match!

You must have had a great time! These are the things we look for, too, when we want a relaxation break that can lead to romance!

  10. The Clayton hotel Limerick looks like a perfect romantic getaway. Cozy rooms with privacy, courteous staff, and good food always give a bonus to the hotel. Pool with huge windows and views of flowing river along makes the time more memorable. Thanks for recommending this amazing place.

  11. Sounds like a really good hotel and those robes look comfy. Personally, every time I travel, I really make sure the accommodation is great because after a long day of exploring, I just want to relax and bad accommodation really gets me. Glad that you both enjoyed your stay!

  12. First of all, I somehow find the name Limerick so fascinating. Yes, the flip side of blogging is it can be really exhausting and you need to recharge and rejuvenate periodically to avoid burnout. The Clayton looks really ideal for a quiet and romantic getaway. I love the fact that all facilities can be used without any additional surcharge.

  13. Limerick always reminds me of Limerick poems… he he…
Seems the town has blossomed into a modern city. I especially like the fitness option in this hotel. I am not a hardworking person really unless I am hiking. But I would like to try that gym and that pool that has been designed so aesthetically.

  14. I love how more hotels are getting full state of the art gyms in them. It makes working out so much easier and way less stressful. I bet that sauna felt amazing. Did you steal the robe from the hotel?

  16. Looks luxurious and an ideal place to rest and recuperate after a very busy TBEX! Love the swimming pool and amazing views! Gutted to have missed you at TBEX – I think I did recognise you both but never got the chance to come up to you and properly introduce myself in person! Next time…

  19. Nice! The Clayton Hotel looks fabulous! Yes, I too love having a plush robe in the room. The dessert and cheese plate looks amazing!
